PAVAO: Any “Announcements?” No? <br /> <br />Schedule Next Meeting Date (Item 8) <br /> <br />The Salary Commission May Convene Its Next Meeting On Tuesday, January 27, 2025, At <br />10:00 A.M., At The Hilo Council Chambers, Hawaiʻi County Building, 25 Aupuni Street, <br />First Floor, Room 1401, Hilo, HI 96720 <br /> <br />CHR. PAVAO: “Schedule Next Meeting”—is for Tuesday, January 27. <br /> <br />Adjournment (Item 9) <br /> <br />CHR. PAVAO: Yeah. Anything else? If not we’ll be adjourned. She (inaudible). <br /> <br />SPEAKER: (Inaudible.) <br /> <br />CHR. PAVAO: Oh, okay. <br /> <br />MS. OTSUKA: Dell Otsuka, District 3. I appreciate all that you’ve done. I do. And I—it’s <br />also a thankless job. <br /> <br />But as I sit here and only after these two months I’ve been reading a lot of the information, <br />granted that the information that was submitted last month, this—County officials make very <br />good money comparably just under Honolulu, and the population and the tourism that affects all <br />of that—economy isn’t taken into effect that—yes, they are paid well and in spite of not having <br />raises all these months, and the fact that the inversion really doesn’t exist means that they get <br />paid very well—well above their subordinates. <br /> <br />So, yes, there are two positions—the deputy’s hard to fill, but all I’m saying is sometimes we get <br />caught up. The merit—and I understand that, but I don’t know of any other business or public <br />sector that doesn’t base their raises on merit or performance. I don’t. <br /> <br />So—and if you talk to each department, the people in the department, they can help you better <br />see what the climate is in those departments.
