Mahuna in support of his application for the position <br />of Chief of Police. I have known Mahuna for over forty years in two distinct <br />capacities: as a family member and as an employee who has worked directly under <br />his leadership within the department. I acknowledge this dual relationship at <br />the outset, and I offer this recommendation based on my professional experience <br />working under his command and my firsthand observations of his leadership, <br />decision-making, and character. <br /> <br />Currently as the Acting Chief of Police, Mahuna has consistently demonstrated <br />a deep commitment to community-oriented policing, public safety, and the fair <br />and respectful treatment of all individuals. His leadership style balances <br />accountability with compassion, earning the trust of both department personnel <br />and the community. Under his guidance, the department has maintained <br />professionalism while adapting to the ever-evolving needs and challenges faced <br />by Hawaii’s diverse communities. <br /> <br />Throughout his tenure in the department, Mahuna has shown sound judgment in <br />critical situations, a strong ethical foundation, and an unwavering commitment <br />to transparency. Mahuna has led by example, setting high standards for conduct, <br />training, and operational excellence. His ability to collaborate with <br />department personnel and the community has strengthened the confidence in law <br />enforcement. <br /> <br />Mahuna is also deeply invested in the development and well-being of his <br />department personnel, promoting training, mentorship, and accountability within <br />the department.
