POLICE COMMISSION MEETING <br />February 20, 2026 <br />COMMENDATIONS <br />Five (5) commendations involving seven (7) personnel were received since the last <br />commission meeting in recognition of outstanding services. <br />SOUTH HILO <br />1. Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Investigation Division Acting Chief <br />Jayson Rego commended Captain Rio Amon -Wilkins and Detective Robert <br />Kamau for being highly professional when assisting in an agriculture case <br />investigation. <br />2. Mr. Richard Johnson recognized Sr. Firearms Registration Clerk Michelle <br />Kaaukai-Perreira for being pleasant, helpful, and expedient when providing <br />assistance. <br />3. Chaplain Kat Konanaui commended Officer Joshua Willing for his kindness and <br />calm demeanor in diffusing a toxic situation with a homeless individual. <br />4. Ms. Emily Lethlean expressed appreciation to Officers Nikita Yoeman and Josiah <br />Loving for their assistance when they had a flat tire on Saddle Road and had no <br />signal to call AAA. <br />5. Keaau Middle School Teacher Tiffany Edwards Hunt and her students expressed <br />appreciation to Interim Chief Reed Mahuna for taking the time to be a guest <br />speaker at their classes. <br />
