From:Edward Johnston
To:PONC Testimony
Cc:Makahanaloa Fishing Association
Subject:Testimony for PONC Commission Meeting March 9
Date:Tuesday, March 3, 2026 12:43:53 PM
Aloha to the Public Access, Open Space, & Natural Resources Preservation
Commissioners,
I wish to support the County of Hawai'i PONC acquisition of Hakalauiki, where
lies the fishing area known as Manamanas.
Sugg. 26- 06, Shoreline Hakalau lki, South Hilo, Hawai'i
TMK( 3) 2- 9-002:001
This easement would protect the shoreline area from future development, ensuring
community access in perpetuity.
I support the partnership with Kmaulihou.
As a 41 plus year resident and property owner in Khua, Pepe'ekeo I remember the
sugar cane days when access to the shoreline was freely open for folks. Now, not so
much. It is critical to keep these islands of access open. --Mahalo, Ed Johnston, PO
Pepe'ekeo, HI 96783.
