April2, 2026 <br />Hawai'i County Planning Department <br />101 Pauahi Street, #3 <br />Hilo, Hawai'i 96720 <br />Re: Subdivision Variance Application PL-SVAR-2026-000080 ; TMK (3)1-7-023 :016 <br />Dear Friends, <br />I am writing this letter regarding the application above, at this time I am not in favor of this <br />variance for the following reasons: <br />1. Some history, former Mayor Stephen Yamashiro and I worked together to pave the <br />existing road. <br />2. The road was lightly paved to help homeowners enter and depart from at that time a <br />dirt and very rough road. <br />3. The existing pavement is roughly 10' wide and would not support additional traffic <br />and wear and tear. <br />4. The utility poles are located very close to edge of road and would present additional <br />damages with increased traffic. <br />5. The existing water line, as is known runs underground in the middle of the road, this <br />would be difficult to service. <br />6.
