<br />MCPD Parks and Recreation Report December 2005- May 2006 <br />ADMINISTRATION <br />Worked with Administration/DCAB to update and distribute ADA Compliance <br />Procedures for P&R facility rentals. <br />Submitted policy recommendations to admin for caregiver locker room procedures. <br />Conducted training for P&R Dept heads. <br />Met with Corp Counsel and ADA Coordinator on transition plan reporting/review. <br />ELDERLY ACTIVITIES DIVISION <br />Hawaii County Nutrition Program staff training <br />Created curriculum and coordinated guest speakers for a "Wandering" workshop <br />looking at characteristics, prevention, planning and preparedness for seniors with <br />dementia. A proposal for legislation for a new tracking system and medical "amber" alert <br />for adults that go missing was introduced. <br />Currently "Project Lifesaver" has been approved for implementation by HPD, and they <br />have acquired a bloodhound for search and rescue operations. <br />AQUATICS: Complaints, investigations and solutions, modification plans, staff <br />training <br />Submitted draft of aquatic access survey to DCAB, ADA coordinator, Corp Counsel, <br />and research and development for comment. It's available to MCPD for review/comment <br />by June 20, 2006, to be ready for public by July 1, 2006. <br />Developed modification plan for Special Olympics. Assessed needs, re-organized lanes, <br />shared seizure management and aquatic safety issues with SO lifeguard, coach, KCAC <br />staff, and parents. <br />Conducted 5 aquatic staff training sessions: Agenda= ADA title II basic concepts, <br />caregiver locker room use, seizure recognition and first aid in the water, and our aquatic <br />accesschairliftprocess.Wroteinstructionsforaccesschairliftprocess. <br />Createdsolution/modificationtoDOHrequirementforrinseshowersbasedonseveral <br />requests to waive showerschair can't go into shower, transfers problems, caregivers <br />inrestroom,limiteduseofhands,wantedtotakeshowerathome,distancetoshowers <br />too far due to re-configuration of facility entry. We can't waive DOH standard, it's not our <br />rule,butwecancreatemodificationsinordertocomply.DeptofJusticetechnical <br />assistance recommended the use of "Handi-wipes". I designed a roll through shower <br />sprayarchtoattachtooutdoorshowerstoeliminatetransfersduringshowerprocess. <br />Will get feedback on roll through shower arch at staff meeting. <br />RECREATION <br />Co-CreatedFinalDraftofStrategicplanandleadstafftrainingJan,Feb,March. <br />Developed approval process for new initiatives and programs.
