<br />ADA Coordinator’s Activities <br />November 2007 <br />ADA - Title II & S. 504 <br />Responded to inquiry from a private consultant regarding Interpretative <br />Signs for rest stops Saddle Road. Referred to State Department of <br />Transportation ADA Coordinator and Access Board; <br />Provided input to Recreation Specialist on ADA training for Parks and <br />Recreation Department’s maintenance employees and also commented <br />on an Aquatics Participation Form and wording for an inclusive Judo <br />program; <br />Responded to inquiry re placement of accessible parking stalls at <br />Pomaikai Elderly Housing; <br />Received complaint alleging insensitivity of members of Aloha Patrol at <br />Ho’okena Beach Park to issues regarding “hidden disability”, service dog <br />in training. Complainant also requested department to install access to <br />the ocean; forwarded to Director of Parks and Recreation, will follow-up in <br />New Year; also forwarded complainant’s concerns regarding lack of <br />public transportation in the proximity of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates to <br />Mass Transit Agency Administrator; <br />Received complaint that Waipio Valley Lookout is inaccessible; provided <br />information that site is on Transition Plan (Year 3), but offers challenges to <br />accessibility improvements; <br />Provided comments to Division Head Traffic re request for accessible <br />parking in front of Oshima Store ; <br />Responded to inquiry from Fair Housing Officer, Office of Housing and <br />Community Development regarding provision of auxiliary aids in <br />Department of Housing and Urban Development funded elderly housing <br />development; <br />Forwarded complaint that specific curb ramps were not installed on Haili <br />Street in Hilo to the Department of Public Works for research; <br />Conducted the ADA and Law Enforcement training (4 hours) for 11 Police <br />Recruits. <br />Title I <br />Received information from a department that a job applicant for a skills <br />test did not request an Auxiliary Aid in advance but showed up with a <br />family member to sign language interpret in Chuukese. <br />Responded to an inquiry from a Department Personnel Specialist <br />regarding permissible questions in a job interview. <br />Title III <br />Forwarded complaint re Snorkel Depot on Ali’i Drive blocking sidewalk <br />with mopeds to Department of Public Works for follow-up; <br />Received complaint that accessible parking spaces in Kurtistown at Post <br />Office and J. Hara Store are blocked; referred to Hawaii Disability Rights; <br /> <br />
