ADA Coordinator’s Report <br />August 2008 <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />Wrote to Hawaii Department of Transportation Highway Division Chief in <br />Hilo to request approval for our Traffic Division (Public Works) to install push <br />buttons on traffic poles 9” above ground at selected stops along <br />Kanoelehua for a resident who requested a modification to our <br />pedestrian traffic crossing program; <br />Informed the Director of Hawaii Island Humane Society of proposed <br />changes to the Rules of the Director of Finance pertaining to the licensing <br />and registration of service dogs; <br />Also wrote a letter to a resident who complained about our procedure for <br />the licensing of service dogs to advise him of the proposed changes and <br />the date of the public hearing; <br />Attended the Mayor’s Committee on People with Disabilities Meeting in <br />Kailua-Kona; <br />Visited Kona Community Aquatic Center to review various modifications: <br />new chair lift, handrails in the men’s change room and shower chairs to <br />extend changing tables in both men’s and women’s change rooms. <br />Title I <br />Provided information to a departmental Human Resources Specialist <br />regarding an accommodation for an employee involving safety shoes. <br />Title III <br />Responded to an inquiry from a realtor regarding ADA, Hawaii state law, <br />and permits for medical marihuana. <br />Training <br />Conducted two non-supervisory Anti-Discrimination and Harassment <br />Training classes; <br />Conducted one 4 hour “ADA and Law Enforcement” training for new <br />police recruits. <br />
