<br />ADA Coordinator Activities <br />April 2008 <br />ADA - Title II & S. 504 <br />Provided general information about the laws regarding “service dogs” to <br />a County resident; <br />Provided information regarding procurement of Sign Language <br />Interpreters to a department; <br />Reminded those advertising events for the public in County Newsletter to <br />include a paragraph telling the public that Auxiliary Aids are available <br />and to give contact information to request Auxiliary Aids; <br />Asked editor of County Newsletter to remind departments to include <br />notice of Auxiliary Aids when they announce public meetings; <br />Discussed placement of bus stops for Hele -On System with Mass Transit <br />Administrator; <br />Provided Mass Transit Office with information regarding the laws on <br />service animals; <br />Met with a County resident to discuss harassment in public housing <br />because of her service dogs and referred her to our Fair Housing Officer at <br />Office of Housing and Community Development for further assistance; <br />Contacted the East Hawaii Cultural Center regarding their lease, ADA <br />improvements to the facility, and arranged a meeting with staff from <br />EHCC, Corporation Counsel and me; <br />Met with staff from Finance, Public Works, Parks and Recreation and <br />Corporation Counsel to discuss how to manage procurement of items <br />related to requests for modifications; <br />Contacted ADA consultant, Bill Hecker, for “Construction Tolerances” <br />authorized by the Court for Transition Plan Projects and forwarded them to <br />Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and Corporation Counsel; <br />Continued to work on beach access issues with Alisa Mitchener, ADA <br />Specialist for Parks and Recreation, particularly Hippocampe wheelchairs <br />and Mobi mats; <br />Contacted Fire Chief regarding possible role of lifeguards in making <br />beach wheelchairs available to the public; <br />Advised Public Works that a construction crew that closed the sidewalk <br />while working on the Judiciary Building did not provide an alternate <br />accessible route; all inspectors were reminded to enforce this requirement <br />when there is construction or other work being done in the public right of <br />way. <br />Title I <br />Gave information regarding resources to a woman who alleged her <br />husband was not being accommodated by his employer (a private <br />company). <br /> <br />
