“violence is violence.” As a committee, she would like to do more in the area of
domestic violence and teen dating violence. There is a tremendous social problem in
domestic violence and violence against women and children. As far as gentle birth,
they have not even addressed prenatal care which is something so basic, widespread,
and needed. There has been awareness by every organization from grassroots up to
the federal government level, but what is our role to bring the message home to our
community as far as prenatal care? Gentle gestation might be just one facet. CSW
needs to discuss what direction the committee needs to take and put their energy into
it.
S. Newland stated that a lot of time, energy, and money have been spent addressing
domestic violence. She is asking that CSW support domestic harmony awareness by
bringing our attention to it. D. Pung said that the idea is good, but she’s not sure what
the committee is going to do and tell people about domestic harmony awareness.
N. Kelly agreed with K. Peters about supporting the concept of sharing information
about domestic harmony. However, the committee needs to look at other things such
as the impact, how many people does it involve, is it the best use of funds.
S. Newland moved that CSW agrees to support domestic harmony awareness as an
alternative to domestic violence. C. Ka-ipo seconded the motion. K. Peters stated that
CSW should discuss this further because her position is to increase intolerance for
violence. S. Newland amended her motion that CSW support the importance of
domestic harmony for women and society’s well being. C. Ka-ipo seconded the
motion. The motion was passed with C. Ka-ipo, N. Kelly, S. Newland, and
E. Takazawa voting in favor.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
D.
