<br />The counties are requesting the GovernorÓs Office to revise, not repeal, the bottle bill. <br />A letter of support will be forwarded to the Legislature in January. <br />PERSONNEL: <br />Bell shared her appreciation of having Tyson on board. <br />DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STUDY (EIS) FOR SORT STATION: <br />OEQC published the Draft EIS September 23, 2003 and it is now on <br />copies are available at the public libraries or can be obtained by contacting Sharron. <br />th <br />Comment period is through November 6 and all comments will receive a response. <br />Alternatives: (1) New Hilo landfill,(2) New East HawaiÒi Landfill within 15 miles of Hilo, (3) <br />New landfill in a dry area that would service East HawaiÒi, (4) Waste reduction technology, (5) <br />No Action, (6) Action (Proposed) Sort station with 5-10 years of long haul trucking. <br />Alternatives dismissed: (2), (3), (4). <br />Alternatives (1), (5) and (6) will be carried forward to the Final. The Department is in favor of <br />alternative (6). <br />COUNCIL ACTION: <br />th <br />Council committee reorganization will be October 6. <br />TRASH TOUR: <br />Itinerary has been finalized. <br />Solid Waste Division ChiefÓs Report <br /> (attached to original minutes) <br />SOLID WASTE DIVISION STAFFING: <br />At the request of Commissioner Ono, Tyson offered his background and solid waste experience. <br />Tyson shared his appreciation of Bobby GonsalvesÓ efforts as Acting Solid Waste Division <br />Chief and noted that he is a very important asset to the County. Gonsalves will now be Acting <br />Ono made a motion to initiate a letter to Gonsalves from the <br />Division superintendent. <br />commission, to be placed in his personnel file, commending and thanking him for his <br />contributions.
