Solid Waste Division Chief’s Report <br /> (attached to original minutes) <br />HILO LANDFILL: <br />After the airspace survey is updated, there will be a new projected closure date. Current <br />estimated closure date remains 2006. <br />Documents regarding the vertical expansion of the landfill have been submitted to the FAA <br />as it relates to the Hilo airport. <br />Smith offered letters of support from community associations and organizations to <br />accompany the County’s request for vertical expansion to State Department of Health. <br />Environmental Assessment will be performed for the expansion request and any waste <br />reduction technology facility. <br />GREENWASTE: <br />Contracts have been drafted relative to operating greenwaste collection sites and bulky <br />white goods collection sites at various transfer stations island-wide. <br />OCEANVIEW TRANSFER STATION (SOUTH KONA/KA`U TRANSFER <br />STATION/RECYCLING CENTER): <br />One property has been identified that meets most of the requirements. <br />A meeting was held with residents on November 7, 2004 with positive results. <br />ORGANICS DIVERSION PROPOSAL: <br />A best-and-final offer has been accepted and it is with Purchasing Division to be finalized <br />and July, 2005 is targeted to start operations. <br />SCRAP METAL PROGRAM: <br />The scrap metal site will be surveyed to address the encroachment issues. <br />Wastewater Division Chief’s Report <br />(attached to original minutes) <br />CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS: <br />County has agreed to take over and maintain residential area sewer systems in Na`alehu, <br />Pahala and Honoka`a. <br />Preliminary engineering studies are being done by a consultant. <br />PERSONNEL: <br />Dora Beck, has been temporarily assigned the position of Deputy Division Chief. <br />KAHALU`U PUMP STATION: <br />The privately owned pump station is being renovated. <br />ALI`I DRIVE SHORT LATERALS: <br />Phase I, II and III terminates at Pahoehoe pump station. <br />22 properties will be connected when the laterals are extended to the property lines. <br />The County will lower the shallow laterals, where necessary, at no additional expense to <br />the residents. <br />-2- <br /> <br />
