CHAIR: I have a question for Mr. Ashida. <br />LUM: Okay, I'm done. <br />ASHIDA: Yes, sir? <br />CHAIR: You first. <br />ASHIDA: No, I don't have a question. <br />CHAIR: Oh, I thought you were researching something for us. <br />ASHIDA: No. <br />CHAIR: Mr. Ashida. <br />ASHIDA: Sir? <br />CHAIR: I don't know, I guess I'm not as intelligent as anyone here- <br />LUM: - -Yes, you are— <br />CHAIR: - -But I'm having trouble comprehending the 2007 State Legislature and what <br />they're actually saying. So let me just ask you a couple direct questions, and maybe you <br />can help me through this. Are they saying that we're prohibited in ruling that photos in <br />meeting announcements cannot be used, period? <br />ASHIDA: No. <br />CHAIR: So we could then take the high road and ask that elected officials in the County <br />of Hawai `i, of which there are only eleven, that we would recommend them not using <br />their photographs in any printed meeting announcements —would that be correct? <br />Couldn't we do that, Mr. Ashida? <br />ASHIDA: You could. <br />DILL: I'm sorry, Mr. Chair, could you repeat the last part? Take the high road by just <br />clarify what— <br />CHAIR: To just clear up this whole mess, come up with a firm informal ruling that <br />elected officials in the County of Hawai `i not be allowed to use their photographs in any <br />printed meeting announcements. <br />DILL: Okay. <br />NICHOLSON: Using taxpayer money. <br />CHAIR: Oh, of course yes.
