Dead Bird Progam <br /> Testing Dead Birds is the best way to detect if the West Nile Virus (WNV) is in <br /> Hawaii. Please help us by collecting and turning in dead birds. The Department of <br /> Health will test all dead birds, except poultry (chickens, ducks, and turkeys which <br /> are raised for meat or eggs). <br /> DO NOT collect bird if: <br /> It appears to have been dead <br /> longer than 2 days. <br /> e It is not whole (intact). <br /> It has feathers or skin that <br /> readily comes off. <br /> e It has maggots. <br /> Sparrow <br /> .r <br /> Dead bird collection: <br /> • While West Nile Virus cannot be <br /> caught by touching a dead bird, - T <br /> the use of rubber gloves or a plastic bag is <br /> recommended for sanitary reasons. , <br /> • Birds should be double bagged (placed in <br /> Mynah Birds <br /> a bag, tied shut, placed in another bag and <br /> 5 <br /> tied shut). <br /> • One bird per bag. <br /> • Fill out form and attach it to bag. (See last <br /> page of brochure). <br />
