Minutes of February 24, 2003 Meeting
Pension Board
Page 2
Upon questioning by Mr. Werner,Ms. Tanouye responded that item no. 8 of the application was
left blank because Mrs. Iwane was applying for widow's benefits and is not the retiree; that she
will be receiving the exact amount her late husband was receiving as long as she doesn't
remarry; that the deceased(Kaoru Iwane)was a County employee who qualified for benefits
under Chapter 88, Part IV of the HRS and met all of the qualifying factors: 1)minimum age of
60 years;2) at least 10 years of service with the County of Hawaii; 3)is ineligible for benefits
under the State Retirement System; 4) is not a receipent of any pensions from the State or
County; and 5)was a laborer/timekeeper for the Department of Public Works, Road Division for
10 years.
It was moved by Mr. Werner and seconded by Mr. Oda to approve the application of Tsuyuko
Iwane for a widow's pension. Motion carried.
Concern and suggestion brought up by Mr. Oda and Mr. Werner was having the application
redone to include space so Pension Board members may know that they are considering widow's
benefits and streamlining the process so the widow doesn't have to go and borrow money in the
interim.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Pension Board meetings for 2003 (to be held in the Finance Conference Room at 1:30 p.m.):
Tuesday,May 27, 2003
Monday,August 25, 2003
Monday,November 24, 2003
ADJOURNMENT
Since there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 1:49 p.m.
Irma Sumera, Secretary Pro Tem
APPROVED:
Beatrice Lau, Chairman
-2-
