Council members:
I am a resident of Paauilo Mauka and oppose redistricting that would both separate
Honokaa et al from the rest of the coastline, and diminish the voice of the many local
people found therein. I believe we (existing Hamakua district) see ourselves as
connected to eachother - and to some extent to Hilo (but it is too urban for some here).
The rest of the island is a fine place, but it's not 'our Hamakua.'
Gerrymandering as proposal "A" would continue to marginalize this important and
already underspoken voice. As it is now - it already takes a long time to absorb & begin
to understand 'the Hawaiian way." The shift in population to more and more domestic
imports (myself among them) is already overpowering a mindset that isn't found
elsewhere. If that voice is lost, it won't come back - ever.
With respect & appreciation for your work-
Bruce Mosher
PO 471
Paauilo 96776
345 -8143
COMM. 48.28
