Eoff, Karen
From: kukabrod @aloha.net
Sent: Thursday, November 03, 2011 9:09 AM
To: keoff@co.hawaii.hi.us
Subject: voter redistricting
Aloha,
I apologize if this is the 2nd e -mail recieved from me, It didn't appear that the first one sent
correctly.... so here goes again!
I am writing regarding the proposed redistricting for the island and, in particular for Hainakua.
I am very much opposed to cutting our district in half. My husband and I live in Kulcuihaele,
and while we are neither farmers or ranchers we understand the importance of keeping
agriculture in the forefront for our district. I feel that it would be a disservice to not only the
citizens of Hamakua but also to the entire island to divide our resources between two
(possibly competing) camps. It is not often that residents from Waimea come to Honokaa
or any of the other small towns out here for patronage. Honokaa does not have the same
resources of private money for public projects that are available in Waimea. It is questionable
to merge these two areas.
Our current councilman has worked tirelessly for many years to foster development for
new and existing ag ventures in all of Hamakua. We need to keep this a unified district
to keep agriculture THE most important issue. After all with the population ever increasing
not only on our island but all the islands we all need to eat.
Mahalo,
Jean Brodman
COMM. 48.89
11/4/2011
