Meizhu Lui
P.O. Box 175
Papaaloa, HI 96780
meizhuluiAgmail.com
808 345 -9024
November 7, 2011
Re: Please Vote Against Plan A
Hawaii County Redistricting Commission
keoff .co.hawaii.hi.us
Dear Commissioners,
For those of us living on the rural Hamakua Coast, having our own County Councilor has been very
important. Both Hilo and Waimea are more densely populated, more urban, and in the case of Waimea,
wealthier than our current District. Our issues are different from theirs, such as bringing services to
remote and isolated families, or fixing barely passable roads in limbo and dangerous bridges which
emergency vehicles cannot cross. Hamakua's former sugar plantation land now owned by numerous small
farmers needs attention to achieve its economic potential. We have been able to get our voices heard
through having our own Councilor. Dividing our District which includes people with similar concerns,
and instead lumping us into a District with more populated areas with different concerns, would weaken
our voice and bypass our issues. Moreover, potentially ignoring community development in Hamakua
would not be good for Hawaii as a whole. Please do not support Plan A.
Thank you for soliciting our input.
Sincerely,
Meizhu Lui
COMM. 51.10
