We work in Waimea and our
children go to school in Waimea.
With the remoteness of Waikoloa and closer proximity to Waimea than Kona, it does not make any sense
to move Waikoloa out of District 9 and into a North Kona district. Councilman Pete Hoffman (who lives
around the corner from us), has been a WONDERFUL Councilman for both Waikoloa and Waimea, taking
our interests at heart, because he lives AND works in both places! My family and I only drive to Kona
about 1x / month. It is not our `home', except for shopping.
A large percentage of my co- workers live in Waikoloa and commute to work in Waimea, rather than to
Kona.
By keeping us within the same district as Waimea, you will preserve the strong sense of community that
already exists.
also believe that the Hamakua coast district should remain intact as is. We have friends and activities in
Honoka'a and Ahuloa, and to split those areas more towards Hilo would definitely break the strong sense
of rural community that is already very special and unique to the Hamakua coast.
Mahalo for your consideration!
Liz Chock
Operations Software Lead Engineer
W.M.
