Please use this version for testimony at Friday's
meeting.
Dear Commissioners,
am deeply disappointed in your handling of the Hilo districts' last minute
gerrymandering of the redistricting lines so Councilman Dennis Onishi and Councilman
J. Yoshimoto will not have to face off in an election. It appears that Councilman Onishi
or some of his cohorts have dishonestly tried to game the system. This is unfair! It
makes your commission look insincere and manipulated. I'm sure you are aware of the
expression "If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it
probably is a duck." In this case "the duck" is gerrymandering. Do the right thing and
don't let Councilman Onishi and Councilman Yoshimoto get away with this.
By the way, my councilperson, Brenda Ford, was moved into another district so she will
have to run against Councilperson Brittany Smart. She didn't whine about it and try to
game the system.
Thank you for listening.
Lynn Beittel
322 -3992
Kealakekua
COMM. 57.1
12/13/2011
