2009 West Hawai‘i PrimeTime Wellness Fair
There was something for everyone at this year’s West Hawai‘i Prime Time Wellness Fair. This event,
co-sponsored by the County of Hawai‘i Elderly Activities Division-Special Programs and First Hawaiian
Bank, was held on Friday, November 6 at the Keauhou Sheraton Resort & Spa from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
200 senior clubs members from Hilo to Oceanview were provided free bus transportation to the event
held at the Keauhou Convetion Center. Over 400 people attended the Wellness Fair and took part in
tea ceremonies, flower arranging, bio-scans, hula dancing, hearing tests, and much more. HMSA
provided flu shots to interested participants and Clinical Labs checked the cholesterol of those who
were willing.

Nursefinders checked the blood pressure of participants at the fair.

Over 40 vendors representing businesses and non-profits around the island were on hand to distribute
information about the services they provide.

Many visitors to the fair also took a chance with the First Hawaiian Bank slot machine or “Wheel of Fortune”
and almost everybody walked away with a prize. Door prizes were given away through out the day, and
those who entered waited in anticipation to hear who would win the grand prize $250 gas card donated by
Mid-Pac Petroleum.

One of the tasty highlights of the Wellness Fair was Chef Sam Choy. Chef Choy provided a cooking
demonstration of three delicious recipes using ingredients provided by KTA superstores and Oshiro Tofu.
Everyone in the audience was treated with a delicious bite of each of the prepared dishes and walked
away with the recipes to recreate the meals at home.

Thank you to everyone that attended the West Hawai‘i PrimeTime Wellness Fair, we hope you walked
away with the tools and information that lead to a healthier, happier lifestyle.

Kupuna News 7 January - March 2010
