Nutrition Program Highlights <br /> <br />From left, at the Aunty Sally's Nutrition Site: Fusayo Matsuyama, Paul Tashima, <br />Meuki Amaral (grower of the giant squash), Margaret Ogawa, and Fumie Jyo. <br /> <br />"TOGAN" CONTEST! <br /> <br />The seniors at Aunty Sally's in Hilo are challenging other nutrition sites to grow their own produce. <br /> <br />Under the leadership of Community Service Worker Roger Pflum, each senior received <br />togan and other squash seeds, along with helpful advice - just look at the results! <br /> <br />Growing your own produce is healthy, as you can choose what fertilizers and pesticides <br /> you use. It can also save you money, as buying fresh fruits and vegetables can be expensive. <br /> <br />We all look forward to eating healthier, and taking better care of ourselves in the New Year. <br />If you are interested in a gardening project, see your Nutrition Site Manager. <br /> <br />KEAAU'S IRON CHEF <br /> <br />The Keaau Nutrition Site and the Keaau Senior Club meet regularly to share recipes, and <br />tips for creating healthy, delicious dishes. <br /> <br />Representing the Keaau Nutrition Site with an array of "pupu" dishes are, from left, Ruth Galloway, <br />Sarah Togashi, Juana Mendoza, head chef Barbara Brown, and Community Service Worker/coordinator <br />Adel Velasco. <br /> <br />Representing the Keaau Senior Club with delicious rice dishes are Haruko Akiyama and Bernice Tanioka. <br /> <br />Kupuna News 13 January - March 2009 <br />
