COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />SALARY COMMISSION <br />March 5, 2012 <br />MINUTES <br />Chair Handgis called the meeting to order at 10:04 a.m. in the Puna <br />Conference Room of the County Building, 25 Aupuni Street, Hilo, Hawaii. <br />Present: <br />Mr. George Handgis, Chair <br />Ms. Karolyn P. Lundkvist, Vice Chairperson <br />Ms. Marcella L. Stroh, Secretary <br />Mr. Brian De Lima, Member <br />Ms. Gloria Wong, Member <br />Others present: <br />Ms. Molly Lugo, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />Mr. Ronald K. Takahashi, Director of Human Resources <br />Ms. Sharon Toriano, Deputy Director of Human Resources <br />Ms. Joney Nitahara, Human Resources Manager <br />Ms. Jennifer Sakamoto, Human Resources Program Specialist <br />Ms. Velma Y. Menezes, Secretary- Reporter <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC <br />Deputy Corporation Counsels Amy Self, Craig Masuda, Bill Brilhante, <br />and Joseph Kamelamela testified in support of the proposed pay plan. <br />Additionally, Mr. Brilhante and Mr. Kamelamela identified a concern on the <br />salary set for the Corporation Counsel, which is significantly lower than <br />salaries paid in other jurisdictions and also one of the lower salaries <br />compared to other departments in the County. <br />MINUTES OF DECEMBER 19, 2011 <br />MOTION: Mr. De Lima moved that the minutes of December 19, <br />2011 be approved as circulated. The motion was <br />seconded by Ms. Stroh and unanimously carried. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />A) Review of existing pay plan to include restructuring salaries of <br />executives, elected officials, and attorneys. <br />Hawaii County is an EqualOpportunity Provider and Employer <br />
