Hawai‘i County Fire Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />May 9, 2012 <br />Page 2 <br />Update on Budget Status: <br /> Fire Chief Rosario and Accountant Robert Belcher <br />attended the budget hearing before the County Council on April 18, 2012. The <br />budget is now in the Mayor’s hands. <br />Alternative Funding and Grants <br />FY 2011 CDBG Grant for Pahoa Apparatus: <br /> Chief Rosario and AC Honda <br />attended a pre-construction meeting at the Pierce Manufacturing Plant in <br />Wisconsin. Expected delivery date is September 2012. <br />FY 2012 CDBG Grant for Pahoa Tanker: <br /> Bid specifications are being finalized. <br />They are still waiting for grant release from Office of Housing & Community <br />Development (OHCD). <br />FY 2011 SAFER Grant: <br /> They applied for 30 fire fighters. The Chief participated <br />in peer review of submitted grants from across the nation. <br />Capital Improvement Projects <br /> Makalei Fire Station: Completion date is August 2012. <br /> Ka’u Public Safety Package: The Naalehu and Pahala volunteer garages are <br />still at Public Works and waiting on bids. The Punalu‘u lifeguard tower is <br />expected to be completed in 6-8 months. <br />Human Resources Division <br />Hiring and Promotions <br /> Hazardous Materials Specialist: Assessment Center scheduled for 5/31/12. <br />They have five vacancies and hope to promote five. <br /> Fire Rescue Specialist: Physical assessment scheduled for 7/2/12 and <br />Assessment Center on 7/3/12. They have one vacancy and hope to promote <br />one. <br /> Human Resources Assistant: Position filled internally. <br /> Fire Equipment Mechanic: Position will be filled with inter-departmental <br />employee. <br /> Water Safety Officer IV: Position will be filled internally. <br /> Fire/EMS Specialist II: Hope to promote in June. <br /> Fire Communications Specialist: Possibly three applicants. <br />Emergency Operations Division <br />Operations <br /> Seven newly promoted captains passed their three-month probation <br />satisfactorily. <br /> Twenty-five personnel attended hazmat training to become technicians. <br /> All fire stations completed station inspections for the first half of the year. <br />Special Operations <br /> <br />
