I N T R 0 D U C T I 0 N: <br />These standards have been prepared to guide County <br />engineers and personnel, engineers for subdivision de- <br />velopers, consultants employed by the Department of Pub- <br />lic Works and other interested parties in the general <br />features required for the design -of storm drainage facil- <br />ities in the County of Hawaii. <br />These standards are not intended to limit the init- <br />iative and resourcefulness of the engineer in develop- <br />ing drainage plans, or be viewed as maximum limits in de- <br />sign criteria. Higher criteria should be used where such <br />is indicated. Lower criteria for specific basins may be <br />permitted where substantiated by detailed studies. <br />The Storm Drainage Standards of the City and County of <br />Honolulu dated March, 1969 has been used as the basis for <br />these standards. <br />iv <br />
