<br /> <br /> <br />Communication No. 2013-3.1 <br />County of Hawaii Parks & Recreation <br />January 8, 2013 <br /> <br />To Russell Ruderman and Faye Hanohano <br /> <br />The County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation <br />wishes to express their supports for Russell Ruderman and <br />Faye Hanohano seeking an allocationfunding from the State of <br />Hawaii for the hiring of a shoreline consultant for a feasibility <br />study and conceptual plan and design for to determine the <br />feasibility of development developingof a safe, legal swimming <br />area at Isaac Hale Beach Park. The County of Hawaii Parks & <br />Recreationdepartment agrees that the funding amount of <br />$100,000 being requested by the Puna CDP Action Committee <br />would be adequate to: <br /> <br />determine the feasibility of creating a safe shoreline <br /> <br />swimming area; <br /> <br />develop a conceptual plan; <br /> <br /> <br />mapping the necessary permitting process; and <br /> <br /> <br />develop a preliminary project budget. <br /> <br /> <br />Parks and Recreation is also able andwould be willing to <br />administer the funds of approximately $100,000 to be <br />allocated from the State of Hawaii for this project. There was a <br />CIP request to Parks & Recreation for a feasibility study from <br />the Action Committee, but Parks & Recreation has expressed <br />the need for funding support from the State of Hawaii in lieu of <br />this CIP request.procure and administer a contract for the <br />feasibility study. <br /> <br />Sincerely, <br /> <br /> <br />Clayton Honma, <br />Parks & Recreation Director <br /> <br /> The swimming area would be a lagoon created on land (TMK <br />(3) 1-4-002:008) that is currently owned by the county but <br /> <br />
