Jobs just are not available in Pahoa except the retail shops, civil service, and restaurants. MOST people STILL seem to commute to Hilo.... <br />Very few to no jobs in Kalapana <br />Not a fault of Pahoa, however. To be self - employed becomes <br />prohibitive due to the taxes (Federal includes your total social security contribution), state taxes <br />AND THE State's GET combined make it really hard to afford self employment and it is therefore <br />discouraging people to create their own jobs which I think is CRAZY. <br />Employment and economic activity Page 3 <br />
