Walking trails and community kitchen were needs expressed by the public at recent
community meeting where P &R pitched their $5.5 million covered play courts, but
administration was not there to hear what community had been asking for for decades....
(Where does that leave community planning processes ?)
How about creating an outdoor amphitheater (space) where large communiity events can be
held for families etc ... free concerts.
Need a performing arts center that includes space for community events.
More places for groups to meet.
Pahoa needs a larger public library with adequate parking. Hawaii County Parks and Rec needs
to include a true performing arts center in the 57 acres park. This will be good for Pahoa
business and the arts community in Puna. The only truly performing arts center in all of east
Hawaii is the on at UH. Place like the Akebono and Palace are old movie theaters.
Very poor amount of parks per the number of people in Pahoa area compared with other
areas on Hawaii Island, and lack of facilities (pavilions, public meeting space, volleyball
courts, etc) at the parks that do exist. Some improvement seen recently but still poor.
Pahoa Park, Skate Park & Pool
Pool is fantastic.
Pool is great! The fields above are really bad. Expand these and invite soccer leagues, etc. to
play here. Look at Shipman Park..it is a thriving park and great resourse making people healthy
and happy.
Park with water, gazeboy.
The only place I've seen with a free pool.
The Pahoa pool is a really nice addition for the families. We need a good full park.
Need classes and activities.
Kids need a bigger playground. Pool is fantastic!!
The pool, skatepark, field are great more recreutinal programming would be good.
Parks and Recreation Page 4
