• It has its own character & personality. It is much safer now after <br />the Weed & Seed designation. People here always made do with <br />whatever is available, not waiting for handouts from Honolulu. <br />• Much talent in this area, 75% of residents are hardworking <br />individuals. <br />• Love the old buildings, the great VARIETY of people — the small <br />town feeling- the green things growing — the new growth towards <br />sustainability& cooperation. <br />• Love the small town aspect —the people make it what it is. <br />• I love the quaint feeling when driving into Pahoa town. It is just a <br />beautiful town with lots of history. <br />• Openness, willingness of the community to allow our diversity. <br />Old Pahoa town's architecture. Small size. <br />• Pahoa town center character is good/ love covered walkways, but <br />sidewalks need to me made coherent. <br />• Historic rural quality. Old style uniquely Hawaiian. <br />• It is small, funky, unique & eclectic — I like that. <br />• Simple local businesses, small & friendly. <br />• Nothing — it is a dump that be condemned like Hilo Bay front. <br />• NO commercial businesses in Central Pahoa, No Chains. <br />• Coming from Puna /Kalapana, it provides a different social <br />atmosphere (ie; food/bars /music, it being more developed. <br />• I love the ambience, the wild -west fagade of old town. I love the <br />slow pace and the sense of community. <br />• It is a small community where everyone watches out for each <br />other. We need to keep that intact! I also love the "rundown" <br />look of it. However, some buildings do need to be improved to <br />accommodate tourists or disabled persons- I see many safety <br />issues. <br />• Old rustic home town atmosphere. <br />• The funky wood sidewalks & locally owned businesses are a <br />plus. <br />• Small town feeling- very unlike the Kea'au, Hilo towns. <br />• The old buildings & boardwalks. The funky colors / artsy feel of <br />the buildings Pahoa Village Museum. <br />• It's a step back in time, to small town America, except the <br />population is more 60's - 70's organica.
