Bailey: Yes, Chairman Sylvester and Commissioners – the ad hoc <br />committee tasked to the Sportsmen’s Caucus continues to <br />facilitate the interfacing of Hawaii’s legislators with the <br />Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus. The public’s input to <br />the commission relating to the lack of an advocacy <br />mechanism in our state legislative body specifically directed <br />to the rule making process, and what can be done to correct <br />this handicap. On behalf of this unison, GMAC has advised <br />the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, through the <br />Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation. In a request for the <br />State of Hawaii’s sportsmen and women to have <br />representation in law-making process aimed at issues <br />concerning hunting, trapping, and fishing in Hawaii. This <br />would be through Hawaii State Legislators, who have <br />affiliation with the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s <br />Caucuses - NASC information fliers have been provided to <br />the public at a previous GMAC meeting and are available <br />upon request. The committee was able to establish a liaison <br />with Mr. Andy Treharne the Western Regional District <br />Manager for the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation. Mr. <br />Treharne has contacted state legislators referred to by <br />GMAC – given the Hawaii’s representatives are requested to <br />be bi-partisan and bi-cameral and meeting acceptance <br />criteria for membership into the National Assembly of <br />Sportsmen Caucuses. In following, Mr. Treharne, on June 6, <br />2013, reached out to Senator Slom and Republican Cindy <br />Evans - and he was unable to connect with Senator Slom <br />but was able to reach Representative Evans by telephone <br />and email. The feedback received by Andy [Treharne] was – <br />Rep. Evans was interested to participate – so he provided <br />her with organizational information to meet the acceptance <br />criteria. Rep. Evans has stated she had some current <br />agenda items to be facilitated by the caucus. She also stated <br />she needs several legislators to draw participation from – <br />furthermore, she will contact Senator Slom and fill him in on <br />the protocol to organize a sportsmen’s caucus in Hawaii. <br />Again, the committee contacted Senator Slom on June 7, <br />2013.
