<br />NORTH KOHALA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN <br />ACTION COMMITTEE MINUTES <br />Monday, September 9, 2013, 5:00 pm <br />North Kohala Senior Center, 54-3900 Akoni Pule Hwy., Kohala, HI 96755 <br />ATTENDANCE <br />1. Members Present: John Winter, Hermann Fernandez, Susan Fischer, <br />Christopher “Keone” MacKillop, Joe Carvalho and Jon Adams. <br />2. Members absent: Faith Yates, Collin Kaholo, and Frank Cipriani. <br />Also present was Rosalind Newlon from the Office of the Hawai’i County <br />Planning Department. <br />3. Public Attendance: Bob Martin, Council Member Margaret Wille, Keith Wallis, <br />Toni Withington, Megan Solis, Margot McFedries, Charlie Anderson, Lucy <br />Pasco, S. Poaline, and April K. Lee. <br />I. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 5:03 pm by Chair, <br />John Winter. <br />II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the Meeting of August 12, 2013. <br />Minutes of the August 12, 2013 meeting were reviewed and discussed by the <br />AC Members. A motion to approve the minutes was made and seconded, <br />and were unanimously approved with changes submitted by the AC <br />members. <br />III. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS: Bob Martin made <br />a statement regarding Strategy 4.3 – Communications and providing a local <br />radio station and said that the North Kohala Resource Center will be <br />submitting an application to the FCC for a local radio station. Bob said the <br />cost would be about $65K to build and about $65K to staff per year. Council <br />Member Wille said that it would be a good idea to write a letter of support for <br />the application for a local radio station for emergency preparedness. Ms. <br />Wille also said that she wants to compile a list of state and county roads to <br />look at intersections and wants to work with the subcommittees. Ms. Wille <br />also said that she wants to help the agriculture subcommittee prioritize the <br />Important Agricultural Lands (IAL) designation process. Lucy Pasco inquired <br />whether the mauka roads have been looked at as alternative emergency <br />bypass roads. <br />IV. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS: <br />Growth Management – Hermann Fernandez gave the subcommittee <br />a. <br />report and said they reviewed the pending County of Hawai‘i subdivision <br />1 <br /> <br />
