This checklist is intended to provide basic, helpful <br />information only, and shall not be construed as an all-inclusive list of code requirements. <br /> <br />In order to aid with the transition from the 1991 Uniform Building Code to the 2006 International <br />Residential Code, substantial code changes or differences between the 1991 UBC and the 2006 <br />IRC codes are in contained within .. The State & County of Hawai‘i amendments to the codes may <br />be found at www.Hawaii county.gov. The Energy Code and resources may be researched at the <br />Hawai‘i County Code Section 5-84 and http://publicecodes.cyberregs.com/icod/iecc/index.htm. <br /> <br /> <br />The issuance or granting of a permit or approval of plans, specifications and computations shall not <br />be construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of the <br />County of Hawaii Building Code or any other ordinance of the County of Hawai‘i . Structural elements <br />‘ <br />not conforming to this code shall be designed in accordance with accepted engineering practice. The <br />extent of such design need only demonstrate compliance of nonconventional elements with other <br />applicable provisions and shall be compatible with the performance of the conventional framed system. <br />Permits presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the provisions of the codes and ordinances of <br />the County of Hawai‘i shall not be valid. See HCC Chapter 5-19 for exceptions. <br /> <br />Counter hours are from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (Clerical staff do not accept <br />applications Wednesday afternoons in Hilo or Thursday afternoons in Kona). Meetings may be <br />scheduled by appointment with plans examiners from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to answer <br />permit or code related questions.
