COUNCIL MEMBER ZENDO KERN — DISTRICT 5 UPDATES <br />For Review by Puna Community Development Plan Action Committee <br />Last updated. January 24, 2014 <br />II. LEGISLATION <br />1. POHOIKI SWIMMING AREA RESOLUTION — Resolution 133 -13, urging the national oceanic and <br />atmospheric administration and the Hawaii State Legislature to assist in creating a safe swim area near <br />the Pohoiki Boat Ramp in the District of Puna and to provide funding for a feasibility study, was <br />unanimously adopted at Council Meeting held Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at West Hawaii Civic Center. <br />Will be continuing advocacy with state legislation representatives and officials. <br />2. The following legislation is to be reintroduced in early 2014 after incorporating suggestions from <br />Council members and residents: <br />a. BILL 25 — AGRICULTURAL TOURISM LEGISLATION DEFINING MINOR AG- <br />TOURISM <br />b. BILL 96 — FARMER'S MARKET LEGISLATION ALLOWING MINOR MARKETS IN <br />SUBDIVISIONS WITHOUT SPECIAL PERMIT <br />III. WORKS IN PROGRESS (in alpha order) <br />1. Additional bus shelters in the district <br />2. Closure of Glenwood Park and identifying future use of the land <br />3. Expansion of Kea`au Park <br />4. Mass Transit hub facility in Kea`au <br />5. New police and fire station in Kea`au <br />6. South Lauko Road connection to highway <br />-2- <br />
