MALAMA I KA'AINA: 2.1 Historic, Cultural, & Scenic Resources Ar+inn 7 1 2 n Propose Special Design Districts with detailed planning, design standards and review procedures for the following areas: (Refer to Chapter 5 for implementation guidelines related to this action) Grass -Roots Initiated, 1) Volcano Village Draft Plan under Consideration Action Status March 2012: Volcano Community Association submitted a draft revision of the Volcano Long - Range Plan (VLRP) (Rev. 2007) to the Planning Department for review and comment. In meeting with the VCA Long -Range Planning Committee (VLRPC) the Department expressed concerns about the VLRP essentially restating what is already called for in the Puna CDP and over the lack of specificity in the draft to adequately serve as a Village Center Master Plan. While calling for the establishment of a non - profit Volcano Historical Society for the creation of a museum and the development of design guidelines for the village center, the plan should have include specific strategies for implementation. January 2014: VLRPC submitted a 2014 Updated version of the 2012 draft plan for preliminary review and comment. The VLRPC also requested assistance from the Planning Department in facilitation of a community meeting on 2/24/14 where the latest revised version will be presented to the community.
