Salary Commission October 30, 2013 <br /> The roll call vote to approve the Minutes of August 28, 2013, was as <br /> follows: <br /> AYES: Commission Members Lassiter, Morimoto, Stroh, Sumja, <br /> and Chair Lundkvist—5. <br /> NOES: None. <br /> ABSENT: Commission Members De Lima and Handgis - 2. <br /> EXCUSED: None. <br /> UNFINISHED The Chair directed the Commission to proceed to the next order of business, <br /> BUSINESS Unfinished Business. <br /> (Item 4): <br /> REVIEW OF EXISTING PAY PLAN TO INCLUDE RESTRUCTURING OF <br /> CURRENT SALARIES OF EXECUTIVES AND ELECTED OFFICIALS AND <br /> ADJUSTING SALARIES ACCORDINGLY; AND DISCUSSION, <br /> DELIBERATION, AND DECISION-MAKING REGARDING THE <br /> SUBCOMMITTEE'S (PERMITTED INTERACTION GROUP'S) REPORT AND <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> Chair Lundkvist referenced a revised"Recommended Salaries for County of <br /> Hawai`i Executives," in particular,the "asterisks" in the "Highest Subordinate <br /> Salary" column(SEE ATT. A), and asked Ms. Nitahara to explain the revisions. <br /> (At this time, Ms. Joney Nitahara, Human Resources Manager II, <br /> Department of Human Resources, came forward.) <br /> Ms. Nitahara stated that the "asterisks" shows that the subordinate pay was <br /> adjusted for the Chief of Police and Corporation Counsel. The Chief of Police <br /> subordinate received a pay adjustment to $125,784 effective on July 1st. The <br /> Corporation Counsel subordinate received a pay adjustment to $102,216 effective <br /> on October 1st. There were no other subordinate pay adjustments for the remaining <br /> executives. <br /> Mr. Sumja inquired whether the pay adjustments were done due to union <br /> negotiations. <br /> Ms. Nitahara replied that the police was through union negotiations and that the <br /> Corporation Counsel is authorized to give pay increases to his subordinates, which <br /> he did. <br /> Page 2 <br />
