Lee <br />Director <br />SUBJECT: HAWAII COUNTY CODE CHAPTER 27 COMPLIANCE - DETACHED <br />ACCESSORY STRUCTURE WITHIN "A" ZONES <br />Please include this completed, form with your building permit for any proposed detached <br />accessory structure (e.g., residential garages, storage structures) to be located within any <br />Federal Emergency Management Agency, "A" zone (Zone A, AE, AH or AO), Special Flood <br />Hazard Area, or Hawaii County Code "Buffer zones" bordering the "A" zone. <br />Renuirements for a Detached Accessory Structure Located Within "A" Zones <br />Initial each <br />Structure Satisfies the Follows Requirements: <br />Bo <br />Low cost less than $35,000 and small in size less than 600 square feet). <br />Used for parking of vehicles and storage not occupied as a dwelling unit). <br />Structurally is independent of the "Principal Structure" and its foundation. <br />Constructed with an unfinished interior. <br />Constructed so all utilities are elevated above the Base Flood Elevation (BFE). <br />Constructed with flood damage -resistant materials below the BFE, refer to <br />p✓ <br />attached FEMA Technical Bulleting No. 2. <br />Elevation Certificate, certified by a surveyor, engineer or architect2. <br />Located, installed and constructed in compliance with Hawaii County Code <br />Chapter 27, certified' by an architect or structural en ineer.2 <br />Anchored to resist flotation, collapse, or lateral movement under flooding <br />conditions, as certified' by an engineer or architect.2 <br />/ <br />Structure will not alter the physical characteristics of flooding or significantly <br />increase the base flood elevation, as certified' by a structural engineer or <br />architect.2 <br />Flood Opening Requirement (allows automatic entry and exit of floodwaters): <br />• Engineered Alternative: Designed and certified' by an engineer or architect2 <br />(if the "Non -engineered" alternative is used, write "N/A" in box.); or, <br />• Non -engineered: A minimum of two openings having a total net area of not <br />less than one square inch for every square foot of enclosed area. Each <br />opening is to be on different sides of the enclosed area. The bottom of all <br />openings is to be no higher than one foot above grade.
