Van Bergen <br />Deputy Director <br /> <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION <br /> <br />101 Pauahi Street, Suite 6 Hilo, Hawai‘i 96720 <br /> <br />(808) 961-8311 Fax (808) 961-8411 <br /> <br /> <br />NEWS RELEASE <br />September 2, 2014 <br />FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> <br />Kailua Park Temporary Traffic-Safety Measures <br />Extended Through September 14 <br /> <br />The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation has implemented <br />temporary traffic-safety measures at Kaila Park, also known as Old Kona <br />Airport Park, that will be extended through Sunday, September 14, to <br />accommodate special events to be held at the park. <br /> <br />Vehicular traffic entering Kailua Park is being diverted to the beach access <br />road located at the north end of Kuakini Highway. This is being done to <br />provide for the safety of park users while the E.K. Fernandez Big Island <br />Fair 2014 and then the Color Run event are being held at Kailua Park. <br /> <br />The Department of Parks and Recreation asks all motorists to follow the <br />temporary 5 mph speed limit while driving along the park’s beach access <br />road.
