PARKS AND RECREATION - DIVISIONS AND SECTIONS <br />ELDERLY ACTIVITIES DIVISION <br />RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program): One thousand two hundred -plus volunteers assist at <br />public sector and nonprofit organizations island -wide. This program receives federal funding <br />and the accountability that goes with it. It is the strongest program in the State, with the <br />greatest number of volunteers by far. <br />Nutrition Program: One hundred percent of operating costs and expenses is funded by the <br />federal and state government. There are 15 congregate sites island -wide serving over 5,500 <br />meals per month. Meals on wheels serve 5,200 meals per month to seniors around the island. <br />The director is required to work directly with state housing officials to continue the service <br />without expense to the County. <br />CSE (Coordinated Services for the Elderly): Chore service, information and assistance, and <br />transportation services affecting over 3,500 unduplicated seniors and disabled patrons over 18 <br />years of age island -wide. Operating costs and expenses are fully federally and state <br />government funded along with contractual third party services through United Healthcare <br />(partial transport services). One position is federally funded at this time, however, additional <br />personnel provides 1,000 hours of information and assistance per month, 1,500 hours of chore <br />service per month, and 4,000 trips per month for transportation to our kupuna. <br />SEP (Senior Training and Employment Program): Up to 40 seniors are being trained around the <br />island to return to the workforce due to their financial needs. This is one of the best SEP <br />programs in the State, if not the best. While other jurisdictions have been shrinking in size, our <br />program has been expanding. All senior training positions are fully federally funded and one of <br />the staff member positions is federally funded as well. <br />ERS (Elderly Recreation Services): Five thousand patrons per month participate in services <br />island -wide: Classes, programs and special events, Wellness Fairs, golf tournaments, Kupuna <br />Hula, Senior Olympics, Kupuna games, Senior softball tourneys, Mayor's Cup, etc. Classes are <br />all self-supporting. <br />RECREATION <br />Over 40 venues island -wide that serves the public with expanded services. With the changes in <br />times, we have had to reassess our focus on the educational aspects of recreation. Programs <br />such as positive coaching and sports officiating, and additional sports clinics such as speed and <br />
