REPORTS/SPECIAL COMMITTEE/PRESENTATOIN: <br /> <br />Chair Lodge introduced Mike Robinson, Manager of Forestry and Natural <br />Resources Land Management Division Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. <br /> <br />Mr. Robinson shared the Aina Mauna Legacy Program master plan – long range <br />plan which is geared to restore and protect approximately 56,000 acres of native <br />Hawaiian forest on Mauna Kea that is ecologically culturally and economically <br />self-sustaining for the Hawaiian Home Lands Trust, its beneficiaries and the <br />community. The plan actions and analysis include: <br /> <br /> Native Forest Restoration and Sustainable Koa Forestry <br /> <br /> Invasive Plant Control and Remnant Invasive Species Eradication <br /> <br /> Non-Native Wildlife Control and Management (i.e. ungulates) <br /> <br /> Road System, Fencing, Water Systems, etc. <br /> <br /> Research and Community Outreach <br /> <br />You may Google and download the Aina Mauna Legacy Program to view. <br /> <br /> <br />REPORTS/SPECIAL COMMITTEE/PRESENTATION: <br /> <br />B. Command: Budget process for GMAC: Budget last year was $7,500 dollars. <br />The line item in this year’s budget is $7,500 dollars, the line item in next year’s <br />proposed budget estimated $7,500 dollars. Total used last year according to <br />current report is $7,153.24. <br /> <br />It was determined that a budget is needed that includes travels to legislature <br />(how many times) out of state conferences if any, etc. If more funding is needed <br />approach the mayor. <br /> <br /> <br />T. Sylvester: Na Ala Hele Trails and Access Update: <br /> <br />Last year GMAC submitted a letter to Mayor Kenoi addressing access issues into <br />areas in Pepeekeo, Kolekole, and Chin Chock. At that time we were working <br />with Jordan Jokiel from DLNR who served as the Access & Acquisition <br />Coordinator. An email which was received on July 2, 2014 from a member of the <br />Na Ala Hele Trails and Access regarding hunting access to the Hilo Forest <br />Reserve near Akaka Falls - mentioned under council members concerns – the <br />developer is working with DOFAR and the county to provide public hunting <br />access and parking as part of a subdivision planning. The letter also included the <br />tax map key which was hard to read but appears to be the old plantation road <br /> 2 <br /> <br />
