Overall, from the police prospective, <br />it went well for spending a very long time post disaster. They stayed out there until <br />the end. CID is still patrolling 24/7, and the National Guard is pulling out today. <br />They started out working 12-hour shifts.The police stations were opened up for <br />officers who couldn’t easily get home, to rest and take showers. The command <br />vehicle was sent out, and they were able to use its restroom and for recouping <br />before going back out again. They pretty much adapted to the situation. He is very <br />proud of their personnel. No police facilities were damaged, but there was some <br />damage to vehicles. <br />Chair Bertsch said he was impressed by how the police handled the situation. Prior <br />to the storm, Assistant Chief Kealoha explained their plans to him. He thanked the <br />Chief and the department for planning, implementation, and keeping everyone safe. <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION <br />Commissioner Victorine motioned to meet in executive session to consult with <br />Corporation Counsel on questions and issues pertaining to the commission's powers, <br />duties, privileges, immunities, and liabilities; to consider discipline and charges against <br />officers or employees of the Hawai‘i Police Department; and to consider sensitive <br />matters relating to public safety pursuant to HRS 92-5 (a) (2) (4) (6) and the Hawai‘i <br />County Charter Section 13-20 (b). Vice Chair Schutte seconded, and it carried <br />unanimously. Executive session convened at 9:55 a.m. <br />Regular session reconvened at 10:30 a.m. <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> Chair Bertsch announced that the Police Commission’s next monthly meeting will be <br />on Friday, September 19, 2014, at 9:00 a.m., in the Aupuni Center Conference Rm., <br />101 Pauahi St., Hilo, Hawai‘i. <br /> Collection of files and documents.
