�tY OF N� •r -'n �,l l l�ly• COUNTY OF H STATE OF H +r,T�af Hh�F RESOLUTION NO. 539 14 A RESOLUTION TO PROMOTE HAWAII ISLAND RESTAURANT SUSTAINABILITY BY NAMING OCTOBER AS HAWAII ISLAND EAT OUT MONTH WHEREAS, to survive and prosper, restaurants on the Island of Hawai`i are largely dependent upon the visitor population; and WHEREAS, October is the generally the slowest month of the year for visitors in Hawai`i; and WHEREAS, increasing the number of residents who frequent restaurants during the October slow period would collectively aid the restaurant economy and would aid the employees and contractors and farmers associated with our restaurants and related businesses; and WHEREAS, designating October as Hawaii Eat Out Month would also encourage restaurants to focus on the Hawai-i Island resident population both in terms of marketing and in terms of specials that highlight produce grown here on Hawaii Island; and WHEREAS, even if there are many who, given financial limitiations, are reluctant to eat out, and are only able to eat out once during the month of October, this collective effort would have a significant positive impact on our island-wide economy; and WHEREAS, promoting collective action by residents to support the restaurant sector of the Hawaii Island economy would have a long-term economic benefit and thereby promote overall Hawaii Island restaurant sustainability; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that the month of October is Hawaii Island Eat Out Month. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that residents are encouraged to eat out at Hawai`i Island restaurants during the month of October. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that restaurants on the Island of Hawaii are encouraged to promote October as Hawai`1 Island Eat Out Month.
