92 3.Solar Matters – discussions continue on possible projects showcasing <br /> <br />93 solar bikeways and roadways. <br />94 <br />95 E.Affordable Housing Updates – current vacancy <br /> <br />96 F.Agriculture Updates – Frank Cipriani reported the following: <br /> <br />97 1.Important Agriculture Land (IAL) Initiative – petition for Kohala organic <br /> <br />98 produce has been notarized and is ready to send for approval. <br />99 2.Strategically sited agricultural lands – Frank Cipriani made a motion to <br /> <br />100 send a letter to the DOA requesting that they make a legacy purchase of <br />101 land in North Kohala for agricultural use and preservation. The motion <br />102 was not seconded, and Frank has opted to write a letter to the DOA from <br />103 the subcommittee (staff note: the letter would need to be sent from the <br />104 Action Committee to the Planning Director for forwarding after receiving <br />105 a majority vote). <br />106 3.Agricultural Education Programs – Programs are ongoing at the <br /> <br />107 elementary, middle, and high schools. Kohala high school aquaculture <br />108 program is on going and initiation of a summer program. Introduction of <br />109 associate director and new member to the Agricultural Action Committee <br />110 Ryan about the new program. <br />111 <br />112 VII. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS <br />113 A.Margaret Wille: <br /> <br />114 1.Planning department is making a change in policy to the growth <br /> <br />115 management. No longer community involvement when it comes to <br />116 food. <br />117 2.Water is a bigger issue – people calling about getting cut off from <br /> <br />118 ditches. Who takes over the ditch? This is one of the biggest problems. <br />119 3.Revision of the sign ordinance – it is currently not being enforced, or <br /> <br />120 selectively being enforced. Maintain no offensive signs, and have some <br />121 that are more visitor friendly and business friendly. Vermont and <br />122 Maine also have similar laws that prevent large billboards and they <br />123 regulate. <br />124 4.Agricultural tourism bill is coming up on Friday, July 182014. Ask <br /> <br />th, <br />125 the mayor to reconsider for composting not only burning. <br />126 5.Meeting about mobile slaughterhouse. The focus is on grass fed beef. <br /> <br />127 6.Keep school program and wildlife center. <br /> <br />128 7.Contingency funds to keep school programs and wildlife centers. <br /> <br />129 <br />130 VIII.
