<br /> <br />1 SOUTH KOHALA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN ACTION COMMITTEE <br />2 aka HUI KULEANA O KOHALA HEMA <br />3 southkohalaactioncommittee@gmail.com <br />4 County of Hawai’i <br />5 MINUTES <br />6 Meeting Date: July 28, 2014 <br />7 Call to order: 5:45 pm <br />8 Place: Lilly Yoshimatsu Senior Center (Waimea Senior Center) <br />9 67-1199 Mamalahoa Highway <br />10 Waimea, Hawai’I 96743 <br />11 Roll Call: <br />12 1Members present: Josephine (Jojo) Tanimoto, Christopher (Kit) <br /> <br />13 Roehrig, Joel Cohen, John Mueller, Roger Harris (arrived @ 5:45) <br />14 2Absent/Excused: John Hoover <br /> <br />15 3Planning Department: Deanne Bugado, Ali Catalano <br /> <br />16 4County of Hawai’i: Margaret Wille <br /> <br />17 5Public in attendance: Clyde Matsunaga, Sierra Tobiason, Greg Mooers, <br /> <br />18 David Tarnas, Mike Luce, Gunner Mench, Kathryn Freitas, Anika Glass <br />19 <br />20 At 5:05 pm Due to a lack of quorum at the beginning of the meeting the Action <br />21 Committee requested that the presentation be done for information. <br />22 STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC REGARDING ITEMS ON AGENDA <br />23 Margaret Wille brought up the Lindsey Rd. extension, the coordination with Parker <br />24 Ranch, and an in-progress strategy. <br />25 PRESENTATION <br />26 Clyde Matsunaga from Imata and Associates Inc. did a presentation of the Planned <br />27 Unit Development Application for Mauna Kea Plantation Estates. <br />28 The bottom half of the land is said to be designated as urban expansion and the top <br />29 half is designated as extensive agriculture land. The main focus of the request for <br />30 this PUD is to preserve the watershed area. He discussed the input of the University <br />31 of Hawaii and the studies that have been done on the land. <br />32 Issues discussed: <br /> <br />33 843 total acres all of which are presently Ag-5. The general plan designates <br /> <br />34 the bottom half of the land as urban expansion and the top half as extensive <br />35 Ag land. <br /> <br />36 The reason for the request of a PUD is to preserve the watershed area. <br /> <br /> <br />37 The locations of two major entrances and exits. <br /> <br /> <br />38 The plan to drill amongst two or three wells, providing of portable irrigation <br /> <br />39 and that sewage will be among each lot individually. <br /> <br />40 Proposed studies by University of Hawaii on mango, sandalwood, hardwood, <br /> <br />41 and honeybees. <br /> <br />42 The proposed Kawaihae bypass road. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
