Van Bergen <br />Deputy Director <br />Blessing and Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Hilo <br />Municipal Golf Course Improvement Project <br />Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi, County Councilman Dennis "Fresh" Onishi, State <br />Sen. Gilbert Kahele and State Rep. Clift Tsuji joined other dignitaries Friday, August 14, <br />for a public blessing and groundbreaking ceremony for upcoming improvements to the <br />Hilo Municipal Golf Course. <br />Golfers will benefit from four new putting greens, clubhouse, bathrooms, bridges for the <br />cart course, rain shelters, and accessible walkways at the driving range. Lead <br />contractor Jacobsen Construction Co. Inc. also will build a new cart -storage building, <br />replace course waterlines and the Kawailani Street fence, and install new fencing <br />fronting Haihai Street. The project is expected to be finished in November 2016. <br />Construction work will require converting the 18 -hole course to a temporary 9 -hole <br />course between February and May 2016. <br />Improving Hawaii County's only public golf course is the latest example of expanded <br />recreational offerings since Mayor Kenoi took office.
