<br />136 They spoke about the Friends of the Park Program, rules and <br />137 regulations of the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the <br />138 requirement for an application to be filled out. They emphasized the <br />139 need for coordination between Parks and Recreation and various <br />140 Friends of the Park. <br />141 <br />142 They also discussed park maintenance, and there are community <br />143 concerns about maintenance, such as weed whacking around the <br />144 parks and the King Kamehameha statue. <br />145 <br />146 John mentioned that the Parks and Recreation meeting is going to be <br />147 busy on Pratt Rd. because that was an issue brought up at the reunion, <br />148 and there are also a number of people that are concerned about <br />149 emergency access around the gulch. He explained that they would like <br />150 to talk about that more in the next meeting, but there will be a Pratt <br />151 Rd public meeting held soon. He also explained that they are going to <br />152 schedule a meeting with Senator Inouye about the Kohala Ditch. <br />153 <br />154 d.Power, View Planes, and Erosion Control: Report from Susan Fischer. <br /> <br />155 <br />156 Toni Withington provided the subcommittee report and said that on <br />157 June 13 there was an informal meeting with Carter Collins, Toni <br />th <br />158 Withington and HELCO President Jay Ignacio about alternative energy <br />159 sources for Kohala. <br />160 <br />161 On June 16, Gail Byrne Baer and several Kohala High School students <br />th <br />162 working on the Upolu sediment mitigation project, toured over 2- <br />163 dozen sediment basins at Kohala Estates with Susan Fischer. On June <br />164 22, Gail and her students spent the day in the field learning about <br />nd <br />165 sediment check dams with the Kohala Watershed crew, and the next <br />166 day the students worked with the crew to install 6 check dams at <br />167 Upolu. <br />168 <br />169 e.Affordable Housing: No updates, there is no chair. Subcommittee is in <br /> <br />170 the works. <br />171 <br />172 f.Agricultural Updates: Report by Lani Eugenio <br /> <br />173 <br />174 Lani said she had a meeting with two people on the marijuana issue. <br />175 She provided a handout explaining what the agriculture <br />176 subcommittee envision for Kohala, and went through each item <br />177 ranging in goals such as jobs for Kohala’s people, non-imported <br />178 laborers, and school programs for future farmers, 50% food <br />179 sustainability by 2018, and more. Lani also brought up a list of <br />180 concerns for the community that are going to be discussed in the <br />181 future. <br /> <br /> <br />
