❖ Kaiholena Lot F <br />➢ Ala Kahakai Trail Association purchase is in the process of closing <br />➢ Kohala Lihikai has applied for County Maintenance Fund grant to steward the 5 <br />Kaiholena lots owned by the County. <br />❖ Kohala Shoreline, LLC <br />➢ The OEQC Notice of the draft Environmental Assessment was published July 7. <br />➢ Toni and Keone reported on efforts to get written comments submitted by the Aug. 8 <br />deadline. Five individuals or organizations said they will be submitting comments. <br />➢ Ala Kahakai NPS will work with the community on realigning the Ala Loa that goes <br />over cultural sites. <br />❖ Kohala Kai <br />➢ Ala Kahakai NHT, NPS will resume negotiations with landowners after closing the <br />purchase of Kaiholena. Talks are currently stalled. <br />➢ The final subdivision document has not been issued. <br />❖ Kohala Waterfront <br />➢ An SMA was approved a while ago didn't require any public hearings. <br />■ There is concern that the lateral access trail will erode & will need to be moved more <br />inland even though the County allowed owners to build rock walls right up to the <br />trail. <br />■ Original county approved shoreline lateral public access alignment was unsafe at the <br />outset. <br />• As a result, County is working with NCAG, other community groups, Ala <br />Kahakai NHT and homeowners association to realign the shoreline trail. <br />❖ Access Group Interfacing with the Action Committee and the County <br />➢ We need to check with Lucas of the planning department on the letter of questions that <br />we sent earlier. <br />➢ The County Council is reviewing General Plan amendments that will include greater <br />importance of the CDPs and their recommendations as well as better cooperation <br />between the Planning Department and CDPs. <br />❖ New Items <br />➢ The Council of Cultural Preservation, a federal commission, is looking into the <br />establishment of "cultural landscapes" to supplement historic site designation. Fred <br />says this will allow greater ability to preserve broader areas such as the homelands of <br />Kamehameha or Mauna Kea. <br />❖ Next meeting <br />➢ September 2, 2015; 4:30pm at Old Courthouse <br />
