Van Bergen <br />Deputy Director <br />Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens Closing <br />Early November 12 for Little Fire Ant Control <br />The Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens will close at 2 p.m. on <br />Thursday, November 12, so the facility may be treated for little fire ants. <br />Normal operating hours will resume on Friday, November 13, when the zoo <br />will open at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. <br />The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks zoo patrons and the <br />general public for their patience and understanding while it works to control <br />invasive little fire ants. <br />Located off of Stainback Highway about five miles south of Hilo, Pana`ewa <br />Rainforest Zoo the only natural tropical rainforest zoo in the United States. <br />More than 80 animal species and 100 palm varieties can be found at the <br />zoo.
