<br /> <br />LEEWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> <br />HEARING TRANSCRIPT <br />OCTOBER 22, 2015 <br /> <br />KAMEHAMEHA SCHOOLS–LAND <br />A regularly advertised hearing on the application of <br />ASSETS DIVISION–WEST HAWAI‘I (SMA 15-060) <br />was called to order at 9:33 a.m. in the West <br />Hawai‘i Civic Center, Community Center, Building G, 74-5044 Ane Keohokālole Highway, <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, with Keith Unger, Chair Pro Tem, presiding. <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Keith Unger, Scott Church, Collin Kaholo and Sonny Shimaoka <br /> <br />ABSENT AND EXCUSED: Brandi Beaudet (recused), Barbara Nobriga (recused) and <br />Thomas Whittemore <br /> <br />ALSO PRESENT: Danny Patel (Counsel for the Commission), Bobby Command (Deputy Planning <br />Director), Daryn Arai (Planning Program Manager), Jeff Darrow (Planner) and Noriko Sauer <br />(Commission Secretary) <br /> <br />And approximately 80 people from the public in attendance. <br /> <br />APPLICANT: KAMEHAMEHA SCHOOLS–LAND ASSETS DIVISION–WEST HAWAI‘I <br />(SMA 15-060) <br />Continued hearing on an application for a Special Management Area (SMA) Use Permit to allow for <br />the demolition of the former Keauhou Beach Resort complex and the remnants of the former Kona <br />Lagoon Hotel facility to allow for the construction and establishment of an educational complex <br />(Kahaluʻu Ma Kai) and related programs, activities and improvements on approximately 22.73 acres <br />of land situated within the SMA. The properties are situated on the west (makai) side of Aliʻi Drive, <br />immediately adjacent to and south of Kahaluʻu Beach Park at Kahaluʻu, North Kona, Hawai‘i, <br />TMKs: 7-8-013: 002, 013, 042 & 043. <br /> <br />UNGER: We have one agenda item today.
