- SWD Chief Goodale indicated that the county does not take tires on a regular basis. Disposal of all tires is banned from the landfill and we are currently spending $75,000/year to dispose of illegally dumped tires. He spoke of the responsibility of tire retailers. The state requires all tire retailers to retain all tires that are replaced with purchase of new ones. Some retailers are not following the law and allowing customers the option of not paying the tire disposal fee and taking the replaced tires home. The law also mandates that all persons purchasing tires are to pay a disposal fee. Enforcement is the responsibility of the State. - Goodale estimated that the cost of tire disposal will triple with the added cost of the tires that have been collected during the outbreak. - As a condition of the SH SL NOV, DOH is allowing a portion of the fine to be used toward tire education for both retailers and the public. The department will furnish the commission the education materials when they arc ready for distribution. 7. NEW BUSINESS 2016 Tentative Meeting Schedule(attached to original minutes) - The next meeting is January 27, 2016, location to be determined. - The meeting dates and places arc in compliance with the Commission's Rules and Regulations. - Commissioner Osborne made a motion to accept the proposed 2016 meeting schedule. Neff seconded the motion and it passed unanimously with members present: Fritz, Nahm-Mijo, Neff, Osborne and Randle voting yes. 8. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS - Chair and Vice Chair Elections - January - Site visit to HPA School Recycling Program - January - Recycling Presentation— January - Budget Recommendations —January(current budget will be provided to the commissioners) - Wastewater treatment plant site visit - Papa'ikou- February - Discussion on how the Commission can assist the Hawai'i County schools relating to recycling and trash disposal - Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan-- Discussion on placement of transfer stations 9. MEETING ANNOUNCEMENTS - January 27 Kona Comm. Hale* (Commissioner Nahm-Mijo suggested that the January meeting be held in Waimea if HPA agrees to the school recycling program site visit.
