K6kua Actions <br />"K6kua Actions" are actions that would help advance CDP Objectives but are within the jurisdiction of non -County <br />governmental agencies or other entities. Depending on the context, these actions may be initiated via CDP <br />advocacy, collaborative agency partnerships, or through direct or indirect support to the lead agency in <br />implementing the specified action; but ultimately, K6kua Actions are dependent on non -County action. <br />Hawai'i State Legislature <br />Kokua Action 7: Pass legislation enabling land banks that counties can use to acquire tax -delinquent properties <br />and use them to preserve agricultural land and open space. <br />K6kua Action 17: Provide the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) the resources necessary to <br />actively support local Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD). (HRS Chapter 180). <br />United States Congress <br />K6kua Action 19: Provide sufficient funding to the Department of Agriculture (USDA), Natural Resource <br />Conservation Service (NRCS), Pacific Islands Area (PIA), the Farm Service Agency, and the Fish and Wildlife Service <br />(FWS) to adequately implement critical conservation programs. <br />State Department of Agriculture <br />K6kua Action 29: Apply for Specialty Crop Block Grants to strengthen taro production. <br />State of Hawai'i Department of Education <br />K6kua Action 66: Develop and support Farm to School programs and other programs designed to provide locally <br />produced food to Planning Area schools. <br />State of Hawai'i, Department of Health (and Dept. of Ag — USDA) <br />K6kua Action 67: Work with local farmers/producers to educate and facilitate the development and management <br />of farmers markets within the Planning Area.
